Your guide to Al-Fresco dining in Basingstoke and Deane

Summer's here, and with it comes the irresistible urge to soak up the sunshine while savouring a delicious meal. Look no further than Basingstoke and Deane for a fantastic selection of outdoor dining options! We've scoured the area to bring you a taste of what awaits.

Coffee shops

Willows Coffee House located on Cross Street in Basingstoke town centre offers outdoor seats, perfect for grabbing your favourite hot drink, a piece of cake and basking in the warm breeze. The Street Bakeshop in Old Basing offers some outdoor seating to savour the delicious homemade cakes and bakes including its signature sourdough, speciality cruffins, doughnuts and sausage rolls. The Yard is a light-filled space offering indoor and outdoor seating, serving local artisan Moon Roast coffee (which is located next door!), toasties, salads, cakes and more. Join them for street food, cocktails and music on the last Friday of every month.

Restaurant delights

On London Street at the Top of the Town you have a number of choices all with outdoor dining options. Elai tempts taste buds with South Indian delights, Lime Leaf offers a taste of Thailand, and Garbardine Bar serves everything from breakfast to pizza, afternoon tea to cheese fondue. All three feature outdoor seating, allowing you to enjoy your meal under the open sky.

Also in the town centre you’ll find a number of restaurants in Festival Place that have outside seating some of which is covered, including Pizza Express, Wagamama, Cote Brasserie and Nandos.

The Palm Brasserie near Oakley and Overton offers a variety of dining experiences from a light bite to afternoon tea or dinner. Their al fresco dining on the private patio is perfect for larger groups to enjoy food outside.

Street Food!

Dummer Down Brewery offers pop-up street food in the area outside the Taproom on weekends throughout the summer months and for specific events. You’ll find rustic seating to sit and enjoy a variety of dishes to wash down with a freshly brewed beverage.

El Bigote in Festival Square brings authentic, delicious Mexican food to the heart of Festival Square with a lovely outdoor seating area. You'll find all your favourites - burritos, tacos and quesadillas alongside a selection of Mexican cocktails and soft drinks.

Pub perfection with a side of sunshine

The Portsmouth Arms in Hatch Warren is a pub with everything you crave – hearty classics, mouthwatering roasts, and their own Dorset-brewed Badger Beers. Find a sunny spot in their beer garden, complete with a play area for the little ones.

The Holly Blue in Beggarwood offers outdoor dining on their wildflower-edged terrace. Soak up the sun or take advantage of their umbrellas for shade, all while savouring a delicious menu that spans brunch to dinner. We love the fact this pub is walking distance to Green Flag-awarded Beggarwood Park perfect for the kids, or dogs, to burn some energy before a bite to eat!

The Hatch in Old Basing offers classic pub fare with seasonal specials. Soak up the sunshine in their charming pub garden, perfect for family gatherings or catching up with friends. Bartons Mill, also in Old Basing is perfectly located for a post-Basing House visit. This traditional pub  opens it's doors in the summer so you can enjoy their expansive patio. It also has a pizza shack and covered seating with heaters and lighting for all year round al fresco dining.

The Barley Mow in Oakley has an outdoor area protected by a stretch tent for unpredictable weather! Let the kid’s imagination run wild on the lawn whilst you relax.

There are a couple of options in Sherfield on Loddon. The White Hart has a patio to the front which looks over Sherfield on Loddon recreation grounds and is the perfect spot to watch the world go by. Alternatively enjoy a bite to eat in their Gin Garden with laid-back atmosphere and comfortable seating. The Longbridge Mill has a menu full of hearty favourites and country pub classics, as well as seasonal dishes which can be enjoyed in their beautiful gardens.

The Spruce Goose on Basingstoke Leisure Park has a large garden with over 200 seats, complete with decking and parasols.

Enjoy the outdoor terrace at The Watership Down Inn, nestled at the foot of the North Wessex Downs, overlooking the head waters of the Test Valley. It’s also situated just a stones throw away from the home of Bombay Sapphire gin where you can go behind the doors of the famous distillery.

With glorious views, overlooking farmland, The Fox in North Waltham offers dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients coupled with a delicious selection of Real Ales and specially paired world wines. We’ve heard the Fox cheese souffle is a dish not to be missed!
