The story so far...
The health and care sector in Basingstoke is the largest employer within the borough, accounting for almost 11,000 people.
The sector is widely driven by Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital which is part of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) and serves approximately 600,000 people across the whole of Hampshire and into West Berkshire. The trust employs 8,600 staff members and operates three hospitals in the Hampshire region seeing 639,508 outpatients and 137,052 emergency attendances*. Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital has led in special areas of medical care as well as technological advancement. The hospital boasts a purpose-built Diagnosis and Treatment Centre while also becoming the first European hospital to perform surgery using voice operated equipment in 1999.

Hospital activities together with residential care are areas of strength. Basingstoke and Deane boasts a thriving care sector, with a diverse range of providers catering for various needs. Renowned national care providers such as Barchester Care, Forest Care and Caremark have a presence in the borough, alongside a network of independent care homes, Hampshire County Council-run care homes and home care agencies.
