Top dog-friendly stays in Basingstoke and Deane
Looking for a weekend away that’s suitable for the whole family? There’s no need to leave your four-legged friends at home as Basingstoke and Deane is the pawfect place to visit with your dog for an overnight stay.
There are lots of places to eat and drink, walks to explore and we’ve found the following accommodation with dog-friendly rooms:
The Watership Down Inn
The Watership Down Inn in Freefolk, is nestled at the foot of the North Wessex Downs, overlooking the head waters of the Test Valley. There are seven stunning bedrooms which are situated across the original inn and in an annexe in the gardens. Dogs are very welcome, both in the bar and in the garden bedrooms, up to two dogs are allowed to stay.
If you are looking to explore more of the local area on foot (and paw), the renowned Watership Down lies to the north of the inn. Follow in the footsteps of Whitchurch resident and author Richard Adams as you explore the stunning landscape that author Richard Adams so loved to wander and where he told his tale of the rabbits of Watership Down. The 24 mile route starts at Whitchurch Railway Station.
Also, a short walk away from the inn is the home of Bombay Sapphire gin. Dogs are allowed in the outside seating area on the terrace, as well as outside of the bus cafe.
Oakley Hall Hotel
Oakley Hall Hotel is a dog-friendly, luxury manor house hotel, surrounded by 315 acres of beautiful grounds. Dog friendly rooms are located in the Courtyard and include a cozy dog bed, blanket, bowls, treats and waste bags!
You will find plenty of local woodland walks to explore including the Woodland Walk around the Oakley Hall grounds or the walk to St Leonard’s Church in Oakley.
Dogs are welcome in on the outdoor Garden Terrace area of the Glasshouse Restaurant, an award winning restautant serving home-grown hearty food.
Bartons Mill Pub and Dining
Steeped in history and set in the beautiful surroundings of Old Basing is a converted mill, Bartons Mill Pub and Dining. With its own lake and river, complete with swans, ducks and otters, it has the remnants of a working water wheel set alongside extensive beer gardens.
With easy access from the M3 motorway, you will be perfectly situated for a pitstop when exploring Basingstoke’s local attractions such as the gardens of historic Basing House or National Trust Tudor mansion, The Vyne.
All bedrooms are dog-friendly with one accessible double or twin room.
Audleys Wood Hotel
Experience a warm welcome at Audleys Wood. Once a beloved countryside home, today, it is a 68-bedroom country house hotel surrounded by woodlands and seven acres of private grounds on the outskirts of Basingstoke.
They offer specific dog-friendly breaks in one of the hotels designated dog-friendly rooms which are located with easy access outside to expansive lawns or courtyards, so you can head out for a walk at a moment’s notice. The White Hart
The White Hart in Overton, is a beautiful 16th century listed building with 12 stylish en-suite bedrooms. Special packages are available for overnight stays in dog-friendly bedrooms, complete with a doggy bed or blanket, bowl and tasty treats. A maximum of two dogs can stay per room at a cost of £15 per pet, per night.

The Carnarvon Arms Hotel
Nestled in the rolling hills on the border of Hampshire and Berkshire, situated next to Highclere Castle is The Carnavon Arms. They believe that dogs are truly part of the family and that it isn’t a holiday without the whole family. The dog-friendly bedrooms provide everything you need to keep tails wagging, complete with their own doggy bed or blanket, bowl and tasty treats. Up to two pooches can stay with you, when available, for an additional £15 each per room per night.
Hampshire Court Hotel
Whether you're in Basingstoke and Deane for business or pleasure, you and your dog(s) will be made to feel welcome as soon as you set paws in Hampshire Court Hotel. The hotel has 90 comfortable rooms, a choice of stylish restaurants and excellent leisure facilities.
Furry friends are welcome to eat indoors within the Lounge Bar or outside eating is available in The Courtyard. You can bring either two small dogs or one large dog to stay per room, completely free of charge.
The hotel is close to Chineham Shopping Centre where you will find several shops, cafes and a coffee shop with outside seating. If you need some extra supplies, then be sure to head into Pets Corner. Across the road from the shopping centre is Great Binfields Copse and the start of the Binfields Nature Walk, a 2km woodland route through the footpaths of Lychpit and Chineham. The walk starts and finishes at Chineham Shopping Centre.
Basingstoke Country Hotel
Situated only five minutes from the M3 (Junction 5), the Britannia Basingstoke Country Hotel has a peaceful yet convenient location and is an ideal base for exploring Basingstoke and Deane and beyond.
Dogs are welcomed at the hotel for a cost of £10 per night or £25 for more than two nights. Owners are advised to bring their own items, such as a dog bed and dog bowl. Wellington Arms
Located on the stunning Wellington Estate in the village of Stratfield Turgis, The Wellington Arms is a beautifully refurbished family-friendly pub, hotel and events venue, offering 25 hotel rooms. Well behaved dogs are welcome to stay in one of the selected dog-friendly rooms for a cost of £15 per night and can even come to dine with you in one of the designation areas within the bar and garden.
Situated conveniently on the A33, less than a 20-minute drive from Basingstoke, Reading and Hook; and just 45-minutes from Southampton Airport. The Wellington Arms coaching inn is the perfect location for family getaways, and couples’ escapes.
Bourne Valley Inn
Tucked away in St Mary Bourne in the Hampshire countryside is the Bourne Valley Inn, a traditional family-friendly British pub with a large garden and cosy bedrooms which are all dog-friendly. Dogs are well catered for here as beds and water bowls are provided and to make their stay even more memorable biscuits and Snuffle beer are available.
There is usually a small extra charge of £15 per dog however if you book a special ‘Muddy Paws’ break dogs stay free. Overnight stays include an a la carte breakfast, as well as a tasty sausage and treats for your companion too; fully preparing you all for your next adventure ahead. Sounds like a great deal. Woof!
Travelodge Basingstoke
Conveniently located a short distance from Basingstoke town centre is the Travelodge. Arrive in the town centre and shop at Festival Place, a dog friendly shopping centre where well-behaved dogs are welcomed into over 70 stores. Enjoy a taste of Basingstoke with lots of dog-friendly food and drink options and why not take a walk to one of the local parks including Green Flag award winning Eastrop Park.
All standard double rooms feature a comfy king size bed and they are dog friendly at a cost of £20 per pet per stay (assistance dogs are exempt from this charge).
