Sustainability at Let's Glow
Enjoy Let’s Glow Responsibly
We’re excited to welcome you to Let’s Glow, and we need your help to ensure this magical event leaves a positive impact on the environment. Here’s how you can enjoy the light trail responsibly:
Take your litter with you or put it in a bin: Let’s keep the trail beautiful for everyone. Use the bins located in the town centre and War Memorial Park or take any rubbish home with you.
Choose public transport: If you can, leave the car at home and take advantage of public transport links. It’s an easy and eco-friendly way to travel to the event.
Share a ride: If driving is necessary share a ride with friends or family to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
Cycle or walk: If you live nearby, consider cycling or walking to the event to lower your carbon footprint.
Respect wildlife: Avoid disturbing any wildlife you may encounter along the trail. Let’s protect their home while we enjoy the lights.
Stick to paths: Please stay on the paths around War Memorial Park to protect the park’s natural beauty, plants and greenery.
Sustainability, Environmental Considerations and Let’s Glow
Love Basingstoke are working with LUMINISM – Light Art Pioneers to produce Let’s Glow for 2025. Together they are committed to protecting the environment while delivering a magical and memorable experience. Here’s how sustainability and ecology have been prioritised for the Let’s Glow light trail:
Energy efficiency: The trail uses 100% low-wattage LED lighting, which is 90% more efficient than traditional bulbs. Wherever possible, mains power is used to minimise reliance on generators, and when generators are required, they are carefully chosen for efficiency and low fuel consumption. On the 2025 trail, we are using a mix of hybrid, solar and battery powered equipment, including the use of Hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuels where appropriate.
Thoughtful design: Installations are designed to work with the natural darkness, reducing brightness while enhancing the artistic impact and conserving energy.
Waste reduction: LUMINISM strives for zero waste to landfill or incineration. Plastic-free or compostable materials are promoted across LUMINISM’s supply chain, and waste disposal is managed responsibly.
Light Sensitivity: Expert lighting design minimises unnecessary brightness and light spill, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the natural surroundings.
Controlled Soundscapes: Audio is localised, and volume carefully monitored to avoid disturbing wildlife or nearby residents.
Wildlife-Friendly: Trails are planned to avoid disrupting hibernating species or sensitive habitats. Quiet generators and carefully routed cabling ensure minimal impact.
Respect for Nature: Routes follow hard paths to protect vegetation, and tree installations are planned with expert care.
