Sandham Memorial Chapel is home to a great example of British 20th Century art.
The Chapel is the only memorial to British soldiers who fought on the Salonika Front during the First World War.
The modest, red-brick building in the village of Burghclere is filled with large scale oil paintings by the acclaimed artist Stanley Spencer. His pictures include images of his time as a medical orderly and as a soldier on the Salonika front.
Why we love it:
- An expert volunteer guide will be on hand to talk you through the paintings and the story of the chapel and its significance.
- Free entry for National Trust members.
