Coffee and cake

There are plenty of independent coffee shops and tea parlours offering delicious cakes and a warm cuppa. In the town centre try Willows Coffee House on Cross Street and the Tea Bar which is conveniently situated at the Top of the Town. If you are heading out of Basingstoke town centre, The Street Bakeshop in Old Basing and The Parlour Tearoom at Viables are popular or you’ll find plenty of coffee shops in villages such as Overton and Whitchurch. Trust us, if you are catching up with friends and family or satisfying a sweet tooth, you will be spoilt for choice.

Fast food and street food

If you’re in a rush and need to grab something on the go you’ll find plenty of cafes, fast food outlets and even street food to enjoy. Festival Street Kitchen in Festival Square is a local favourite offering burritos, wraps and big pan delights and Greek Street in Chineham is fast becoming a go to for Greek favourites.

Pubs and bars

Whether you’re looking for a bar to have a drink with friends or a cosy country pub to stop off at during a walk in the countryside, you are sure to find somewhere with unique character and atmosphere. The Duck & Tipple in Wote Street at the Top of the Town offers designer cocktails and rustic food in a contemporary and relaxed setting and there are plenty of popular pubs to explore, including The Hoddington Arms which is a popular family pub in the pretty village of Upton Grey. If you fancy seeing how the gin in your cocktail is made then take a tour around Bombay Sapphire Distillery in Laverstoke and enjoy a drink afterwards.

Restaurants

Basingstoke is home to a variety of restaurants all under one roof at Festival Place including Cosy Club, Las Iguanas, Cote Brasserie and Nandos. Across the town centre there are a number of independent restaurants offering a variety of cuisines including Thai, Sushi, Japanese, Indian and Greek. Locals love the authentic Thai food at The Lime Leaf and the unique dining experience at The Olive House. Across the surrounding areas there are even more restaurants to explore against the backdrop of the Hampshire countryside including The Glasshouse Restaurant at Oakley Hall Hotel (main picture) which offers modern British cuisine in a beautiful setting.
